Happy Birthday, FM - No Static At All!

Happy Birthday, FM! It was on March 4, 1941 that the first FM station signed
on in Nashville. Station "W47NV" is now known as WSM-FM.

FM or frequency modulation -- was first proposed in a scientific paper
written by Edwin Armstrong in 1922. Edwin Armstrong presented his paper: "A
Method of Reducing Disturbances in Radio Signaling by a System of Frequency
Modulation", which first described FM radio, before the New York section of
the Institute of Radio Engineers on November 6, 1935:

In 1938, Edwin Armstrong built 425 foot Alpine Tower, in Alpine, New Jersey,
for his transmission experiments that led to modern FM radio. The original
transmissions occurred at 42.8MHz: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alpine_Tower

Today Alpine Tower in the home of WFDU 89.1 Teaneck NJ, the broadcast outlet
of Fairleigh Dickinson University: www.wfdu.fm

According to Inside Radio: Today, there are nearly 11,000 radio stations
around the nation -- close to six-out-of-ten of them operating on the FM
band.

One of the 10 Best Cities to start a business.. Youngstown Oh? Really!

Picked up the August 2009 edition of Entrepreneur magazine, the front cover reads: "The 10 Best Cities to start a business (Youngstown, Ohio, anyone?)"

What.. is this a joke? Nope, seems that Y-Town is on a comeback.

But it's not 1979, 89, or even 99.. it's 2009. Steel died in this rust belt valley in 1977, this article should have been written in 1979, not 2009. But, disappointingly it took well over 30 years for area to realize that their one trick pony (steel) was not coming back. Nobody wished harder, the "Good Old Days" of steel would come back, then the Mahoning Valley. Unfortunately, during the same time, the world (and business) passed "The Valley" by... year, after year, after year. Lets hope they have ultimately learned from the past 30 years.

Gee, someone should have told me Youngstown Ohio was "Where to Be an Entrepreneur". I would not have left.. 20 years ago!

Here is the Y-Town Lowdown:
